As mentors, we must help our mentees develop networks that correspond with their career goals. Suggest relevant industry events and provide instruction on effective networking techniques. To maintain ties, you must follow up. Avoid over-networking with senior executives. Concentrate on peer interactions initially. Help mentees make the shift from informal connections to significant professional partnerships that will help them achieve their goals over time. Emphasise the value of reputation; when networking, behave oneself with honesty to foster goodwill.

It is important to remember that one size does not fit all, especially with mentorship. The needs of one mentee will likely not be the same as others you may work with. Mentees typically have different communication preferences, desired meeting cadences, varying levels of experience, and more. Incorporating a form or goal worksheet can help the mentee assess their current goals and needs. It serves as a quick tool to help guide the discussion and enrich your experience together. Utilizing the GROW model is a great framework to help structure achieving a goal objective and identify what is needed to get there. It is a simple four-step framework that consists of establishing the Goal, Reality, Options, and Way Forward.
