How do you handle a vendor relationship that is hindering rather than enhancing system performance?

In my experience Collaborative Approach: Work with the vendor to identify the root cause of the issues. This could involve technical troubleshooting, configuration adjustments, or software updates. Action Plan: Develop a joint action plan with clear milestones and deadlines to resolve the issues. Regular candence/Updates: Schedule regular updates with the vendor to track progress on the action plan. Performance Metrics: Use key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure improvements and ensure the vendor's solutions are effective.

One thing i found mandatory that is open communication with vendor. As much as we have good relation ship we can discuss issues and mitigate risk for our collaborative business. This will help us to drive things more smoothly and understanding needs of each other.

First and foremost, it’s very important to assess the Situation by evaluating the performance metrics. The next step will be to communicate clearly by initiating a dialogue, Schedule a Meeting, provide evidence, set expectations, outline requirements and request action plan. After these two steps, I will use a collaborative approach to solving the problem by using a Joint Problem-Solving approaches aimed at working together to develop Solutions. After which I will have to monitor and review entire solution plan and thereafter evaluate alternatives and make sure to come out with a best decision.

I strongly feel a end to end root cause analysis of issues contributing to impact say it all measurable metrics , go broad to bucket all issues and narrow it down to problem question to find the fixes

Finally, we would bring these findings to the negotiation table and consider mitigation strategies regarding impact level. This approach helps to understand the specific issues and determine the appropriate handling method.

Have a frank talk with the vendor and make sure you are diplomatic and professional yet making your point clear in communicating what is good, what is not good, where improvements needed and not but not least check where they need your help

Set expectation right from the beginning, clearly call out terms in Service level agreement and ensure to take the vendor team through necessary training wherein the vendor delivers the expected performance

Have a regular operation mechanism with vendor team and internal stakeholders to monitor SLA , progress and work on continuous improvement process to get desired results

While exploring alternative options it is very crucial to get market best practices which is viable, longsighted , reliable and cost efficient
