How do you handle conflicts that arise when team members have conflicting goals for a project?

Es habitual encontrarnos con equipos de trabajo donde inicialmente parecen tener un objetivo alineado, pero a menudo existen metas contradictorias que pueden pasar desapercibidas. Estos equipos generan fricciones y reducen su productividad y terminan minando la moral del equipo. Imagina que mientras una parte del equipo intenta buscar maximizar la calidad y otra parte se enfoca en reducir costos, aunque ambos objetivos son valiosos, su combinación sin diálogo puede ser super perjudicial para el equipo y toda la organización. Por lo tanto, STOP, es imprescindible parar y reconocer y abordar las diferencias. ?Cómo? A través de una comunicación clara y un espacio de confianza para escuchar a todas las voces. ?El diálogo es clave!

Conflict is inevitable in any team setting, particularly when team members have different goals and perspectives for a project. As a relationship development coach, I’ve found that the key to resolving these conflicts lies in the power of communication, empathy, and collaboration. Facilitate Open Communication: create an environment where everyone feels safe to express their thoughts and concerns. Conflicts often arise from misunderstandings or assumptions. Clarify the Bigger Picture: When team members are laser-focused on their individual goals, they can lose sight of the overall objective of the project. A key part of conflict resolution is realigning everyone with the shared mission.

Many people make the mistake of dealing with conflicts only with arguing. This makes conflicts look like a dangerous and destructive thing. However, once that you recognize that a conflict is simply a situation in which the concerns of people seem not to be compatible, it becomes clear that arguing is only a way of reacting. As a Business Coach I often use the TKI's approach (Thomas-Kilmann Instrument) allowing my clients to recognize that we have a number of choices in how we manage conflict. It directs our attention to the ways in which we can manage the conflict process through the choices we make, in order to manage it in a way that is constructive.

Así que, si te encuentras con en una situación donde el diálogo no fluye, fomenta los canales de comunicación de forma clara y con regularidad y cultiva un ambiente de confianza. ?A por ello!

One of my favorite exercises to do when I facilitate/coach team-building sessions is to show the entire team the same picture. I then ask a series of questions and each person answers the same questions and then each person shares with the group their assessment of that picture related to the questions I posed. This enables them to learn how each team member sees the same picture but sees it differently. each person has distinct talents and past experiences that impact how they approach solving problems. To understand where each person's perspective will help the entire team accomplish the goals at hand.

Desde mi experiencia, alinear los objetivos es como dirigir una orquesta. Imagina que cada miembro es un músico con su instrumento. Si todos tocan notas distintas sin seguir la partitura, el resultado es como un caos; pero cuando todos siguen la misma melodía, se crea una sinfonía armoniosa. De igual manera, en un equipo, cada objetivo individual debe estar en sintonía con la meta común. Sin alineación, los esfuerzos se dispersan y el proyecto se desmorona. Pero cuando todos trabajan en la misma dirección, los resultados son increíbles. La clave está en definir los objetivos para que cada acción contribuya al éxito colectivo.

La toma de decisiones es un tema que inquieta a muchos miembros del equipo y al líder y especialmente cuanto no todos están de acuerdo. Sin embargo, hay momentos en los que a pesar de ello, es necesario tomar una decisión para alcanzar un bien mayor. Este tipo de decisiones requieren madurez y comprensión. Es como cuando subimos una monta?a, el camino es difícil pero la vista desde la cima lo vale. Por lo tanto, en este punto la claridad, la transparencia toman una importancia enorme. Conviene sacrificar preferencias por un bien mayor que hay que explicar con honestidad ya que de esta manera se fortalece la cohesión y se avanza hacia el éxito. Explica el" por qué" detrás de la decisión para que todas las partes se sientan parte del proceso.

Desde mi experiencia la comunicación clara y honesta es esencial para que un equipo funcione. Articular decisiones de forma precisa para que todos entiendan el rumbo a seguir y con ello fortalecer la cohesión y el compromiso del equipo. Para comunicar con claridad es importante: 1) Explicar el "por qué" detrás de cada decisión 2) Definir los roles y las responsabilidades 3) Verificar el entendimiento y el progreso Porque una comunicación clara no solo transmite información, sino que también construye un equipo más fuerte y cohesionado.
