How do you handle complex or multi-sheet schematics when importing them into a PCB design tool?

The very first thing - RTFM!

It does not work the described way. You can not import any schematic you want. Yes, you can import Netlift file format describing only entity to entityninterconnections. I strongly don’t recommend such imports. Focus on the regular design work. Schematic->PCB layout->Manufacturing data export

In my experience, it's best to use a schematic editor which has a unified PCB designing feature in it eg #AltiumDesigner. This shall reduce all the complications since the software will handle most of the load and improve overall development efficiency. For cases where the unified tool is not used for schematics creation, then find the compatible file format used for the PCB design tool and export the schematic file in that format. If its a single window ECAD tool or not, some important points to consider: - Must maintain labeling standards for nets/wires. - Make sure to specify differential pair, length matching, power details, etc in the schematic. - clear notes of important mechanical considerations to be specified.

Multi-sheet design is used when the same design or circuit is used repeatedly or multiple times. All the nets, port and component have to be labelled automatically and that you can do in the tool. Check the reference designators are correct. Check for differential signals _P and _N. Check all the nets are updated correctly. Do DRC and then import in the PCB tool.

Each EDA tool helps you keep your schematic organised. It is not about just organising. It is not a work for the sake of work. It is a regular design job.

Complex or multi page schematic sheets can be built as hierarchical schematic either using top bottom approach or bottom top approach.
