How do you grow your career as a coach?

In the same way that we coach our clients to have an idea of the jobs they want to pursue, invest in a coaching professional, network, and learn how to showcase their value, as coaches, we need to do the same for our careers. You can't grow as a coach if you don't invest in your business and education. You can't find support if you don't network with other coaches. And most important of all, you can't help just about anybody. Coaching is a niche business. If you say you can help everybody, you are likely helping nobody. You don't become an expert without a target audience. How do you want to help people? How can you use your previous experiences to help others achieve results? What type of results do you want to provide to your clients?

En tant que Coach, difficile de me voir à la tra?ne dans un programme de formation auquel je participe comme étudiante. Mais une telle réalité développe en moi des vertus qui me seront nécessaires dans l'accompagnement des professionnels à la quête du travail bien fait : patience, sérénité dans les moments difficiles, humilité.

One of the things I suggest to all the coaches I coach is to budget for your own professional development, including one "big investment" each year. Whether it's a course, certification, or a conference, research ways to build your own skills, knowledge, and network, and commit to at least one big effort annually. You can also create a road map for yourself to plan out larger professional development opportunities. If you have a high-cost certification you'd like to obtain, plan a goal timeline for it, even if it's a year+ down the road. The same goes with conferences or travel - if you can't invest them now, make them a goal (or reward) for the future!). Regardless, don't get so busy filling others' cups you forget to fill your own!

Upskilling cannot be stressed enough. Having sufficient exposure and practice in an array of tools ensures that we can use the most appropriate one in the context of the client. It is true that your business will grow only to the extent that you grow yourself.

One of the only reasons I am on Facebook is due to the entrepreneur community I am in and although we all work in different fields, I have learnt a lot from other people's perspectives on my work and business. If you want to raise your game then surround yourself with those that are doing the same or better than you.

Feedback (or as some prefer feed forward) is an essential part of the development, not just in the coaching field. Yet, it’s not fully appreciated and both givers and receivers should play their part. Be courageous and take it as a responsibility to give constructive feedback. Be humble and ask for feedback.

Coaching is a fraught area ..u can’t coach if you dont have life experience. ..it’s a delicate balance btw giving constrictive feedback and not destroying the person or demotivating them
