Top leaders need to message and use symbols that promote their commitment to innovative thinking. Posters, desk placards, and streaming messages on company sites can be used to message and prompt innovative thinking / behavior - reinforcing the idea that this firm is about new thinking. Recently, I worked with a client to plan an event, where the top leadership came together before the rest of the company and signed their name to a set of banners which contained the company's vision - demonstrating their commitment to the firm's agenda of innovation. Copies of the signed banners were then mounted in each department, where staff were invited to sign them as a symbol of their commitment to the vision. It inspired and mobilized the firm.

I started my professional career in a startup and the freedom to ideate, debate, propose, prototype were key in evolving the solutions and products we proposed to clients. This culture of creativity was reinforced further through celebrating our successes and failures (from which the lessons learnt were also seen as opportunities to grow and develop).
