How do you foster a culture of open communication in your team?

Em todas as minhas atua??es como líder e gestora, principalmente em setores de comunica??o, aprendi que o principal ponto é passarmos o exemplo, a atitude, e isso precede em muito a fala ou as palavras. Se como líderes conseguimos mostrar para a equipe que a comunica??o será horizontal, de forma justa e sempre aberta, todos se sentir?o mais à vontade. Quando deixamos claro que é permitido opinar, independentemente do cargo, passamos a ideia de que somos abertos e estamos dispostos a gerar solu??es para melhor equilíbrio da equipe, bem estar e, claro, nos resultados.

Sin prejuicios, aunque suena sencillo pero requiere que apagues tu propia voz y dejes oir la de tu equipo incluso si ésta no es la que te gusta, más bien con mucho esfuerzo abre tu mente a una verdad compartida, ser absoluto a pesar de tener la razón sino la sabes desplegar pierdes una gran oportunidad.

Active listening is a crucial skill every leader and team member should work on. It helps to gain more clarity and understand other people's emotions. Active listening helps to solve issues effectively, build strong team bonds, and gain valuable insights that help you overcome any challenge. It encourages the team to share their ideas and contribute to solving a problem with more confidence.

Active listening cultivates open dialogue by demonstrating respect for others' voices. Concentrate fully when teammates speak, seek to understand their message without judgment, and provide feedback. This focused attention signals that you value their input. When team members know their opinions are truly heard and considered, they feel empowered to share more openly and honestly. Mastering active listening creates a psychologically safe space for free-flowing communication by making every voice feel valued. It's a powerful tool for leaders to nurture an open organizational culture.

Fostering an open culture goes beyond just talking - it's about constantly welcoming the free exchange of ideas. Host regular forums dedicated to voicing thoughts and concerns, making it clear that all perspectives are valued. Create an inviting atmosphere where diverse viewpoints collaborate, not compete. When teams see dialogue is actively encouraged and every contribution appreciated, psychological barriers dissolve. An ongoing push for constructive discourse empowers unfettered communication and collective problem-solving.

Encouraging dialogue is not enough. The communication team must ensure that spaces for dialogue are safe and that all opinions are received in an environment of freedom, without risk of reprisals or an inappropriate use of them.

Trust and respect form the bedrock of open dialogue. Consistency in actions and keeping promises breed trust, while valuing each person's contributions and maintaining confidentiality cultivates respect. When teams trust that their voice is genuinely respected and taken seriously, psychological safety enables honest, unguarded communication. An environment of mutual trust and regard empowers team members to openly share ideas, concerns, and feedback without fear. This foundation is critical for developing a robust culture of transparency.

To foster an open communication culture on my teams, I regularly solicit feedback and in different contexts. I ask for feedback in team meetings, 1:1s, and through email surveys. Likewise, I'll provide feedback -- generally through 1:1s; and praise and team level feedback is generally shared where the broader team can received it, whether on a call or through asynchronous communication (ie. Slack). This empowers team members to realize I value and appreciate feedback, and that I'll likely ask for it, so they might as well come prepared with some thoughts!

Sin duda, introducir una comunicación participativa y un paso obligado a una adecuada retroalimentación va a generar apertura de cada integrante del grupo y el grupo se va a nutrir de variedad de ideas per sé y también se podrán identificar puntos de control fácilmente. La retroalimentación es crítica si queremos implementar una cultura democrática y de comunicación abierta.
