Social finance and impact investing offer numerous advantages for investors, entrepreneurs, communities, and the planet. These include aligning values and returns by investing in solutions that match their mission and generating both financial and non-financial returns. Additionally, it enables entrepreneurs to drive innovation and transformation by creating solutions that address unmet needs, opportunities, or markets. Furthermore, it creates shared value and impact by engaging multiple stakeholders in the creation and distribution of value. Despite these benefits, social finance and impact investing also face several challenges. These include a lack of awareness and understanding of their definitions, principles, practices, and benefits; a lack of standards and frameworks for defining, measuring, reporting, and verifying the social or environmental impact; as well as a gap between the supply and demand of capital and capacity.
