How do you evaluate your team's performance and satisfaction with delegation and empowerment?

The trust that delegation requires need to be built by showing you team that you will back them up even when their results are not as expected, specially when the result was impacted by a bad decision or action taken in the process you delegated. Having the team trusting that you will not expose them when a mistake happens, will give them more confidence to move forward and open space for you to help them improve and avoid mistakes without exposing it to the rest of the company.

Any great organization has great leaders who understand the value and importance of trust. And because they trust their team members, they feel the upmost comfortability delegating important tasks and projects to them. This 100% fosters a feeling of being, empowerment, and confidence in your team members. It allows them to spread their wings and really reach their full potential. Also a point to note - any delegation should come with minimum micromanagement. Unless your team member has questions and is requesting your help, leaders should back away and give the team member the appropriate time and space to operate. Then just sit back and watch them be great!

I agree with the statement and practice this method daily. It is very effective and its a good way to keep my employees bucket full. It's also a good way to develop skill set.

Delegation is one of the most difficult leadership skills to master because it is often so closely linked to trust. Leaders who don't know their team members well enough or who have not spent time understanding their strengths and development areas are less likely to trust and less likely to delegate. Leaders can counteract this by spending time every week coaching individual team members. This practice helps to work out what can be delegated and also support team members to manage the newly delegated duties. It is also good practice to invest 15 minutes a week assessing personal time use and identifying actual vs ideal.

In delegating work or higher responsibilities, there needs to be a neutral conflict resolution management or system in place. You need to expect things may get a little rocky or uncomfortable at first within teams or even individual members. It would be highly useful to lay down a system on how conflicts will be managed or addressed. Also the resolution part is utmost important . The resolution part needs steps the team or individual member can take without retaliation to address work issues .

From my perspective, evaluating my team's performance and satisfaction with delegation and empowerment involves conducting regular assessments to identify any challenges that may arise. Open and honest communication is crucial to address potential conflicts, resistance, or misunderstandings, ensuring everyone's concerns are heard and acknowledged. From my experience, continuous feedback loops and learning from both successes and setbacks can lead to refining delegation strategies, maintaining a balance between autonomy and guidance, and ultimately enhancing team performance and satisfaction.

Honestly, this sounds like an awful lot of extra work. As above, I would suggest taking time to meet individuals for 30 minutes weekly coaching where leaders can practice using the simple (but highly effective) Ask and Listen approach. Coaching should always be action focused so it's important to clarify the actions and note these for follow up next week. It is important to support leaders to develop the necessary coaching skills to ensure coaching conversations are effective and valuable for everyone.

I believe the best method of evaluation is to always stay close to your team, not only in official meetings or appointments, but also going out for lunch or a coffee with them one or two days a week and talk also their moment in life. If you have no time to do that, maybe you should study possibilities to create another level that can be closer to the team, and you get closer to this supervise level. Evaluate through feasible KPIs is the most popular method I've seen in my career, and I think it can work just fine, however the mais challenge is when companies add an extra process to calibrate performance among departments, what in my opinion isn't either correct or fair.

In my experience, the evaluation system always has been how many conflicts were managed constructively. Is there a high turn over? Are employees efficient when they deliver their assigned tasks? Many times above suggestions demotivate employees because they take time to reflect or give opinions only to find out months later nothing they suggested was put into use. I don’t think the measures listed above at least in my experience resulted in better or useful evaluations

Two things to be kept in mind while evaluating anybody's performance :- 1) The comparison should be with individuals past performance rather than peers as everybody has different abilities. 2) Results of evaluation should be informed personally along with methods to improve the same.
