How do you evaluate and select the best DCS software and hardware for your project needs and budget?

In my point of view, the best approach is work in stages. Following a methodology like FEL is helpful to make sure your needs are properly addressed and you stay in budget. The first step should be to build the requirements. Building a good User Requirements Specification is key to success. Once the URS is built, move to a Functional Requirements Specification. Get budgetary proposals in each stage and validate them against your requirements. If you do not have the proper team to properly handle it, hire a company with experts on DCS implementation to help you along each stage.

One the best method to find a suitable DCS for your requirements is to develop a detailed scope plan explaining all the information which will help in building an apt DCS system. Market always has many options so build a one which can have some flexibility in changes in the future. Review your design and try to optimise with places to accept changes while engineering. Change management will cost more in the DCS, so choose wisely accordingly to your needs.

To properly size a DCS, it is very important to consider the proposed scope, the amount of I/O involved and how the system will be operated.
