1 Set clear expectations

When I led a large team of volunteers for big events, one of the key things was to work collaboratively. I always tried to give the overall goal and ask the volunteers to come up with a plan to execute it. This had two benefits: 1. The volunteers felt included. 2. The volunteers had ownership of the tasks. These two factors added great value to the overall experience and made things way easier to manage, because they were executing the plan they had created. I suggest giving an overall picture and a clear definition of success in that role, and allowing freedom to make mistakes and learn.
