According to my own experiences, especially the development or research backlog in the early stages of product development cooperation requires the presence of strict prioritization. In practice, this means difficult go/wait/no-go decisions, for which someone or some must be authorized.

In my experience to measure the impact of the product R&D collaboration or in general for any collaboration, communication is a key. 70% of the projects fail due to lack of proper, timely and effective communication. Another important element is to finding the right stakeholders and stakeholder management. The constructive feedback from the right stakeholders will also help in evaluating the impact and success of the collaboration.

2 Collect feedback and data

To evaluate the impact of your Product R&D collaboration, you need to collect feedback and data from various sources and perspectives. This includes your own team, your partners, your customers, your stakeholders, and your competitors. You can use different methods and tools to gather feedback and data, such as surveys, interviews, focus groups, tests, analytics, benchmarks, and reviews. You should collect feedback and data throughout the collaboration, not just at the end, to identify any gaps, issues, or opportunities for improvement. You should also compare the feedback and data with your initial objectives and indicators, to assess how well you are meeting them.

3 Analyze the results

Once you have collected feedback and data, you need to analyze them to draw insights and conclusions about the impact of your Product R&D collaboration. You should look for patterns, trends, correlations, and outliers in the feedback and data, and try to explain the reasons behind them. You should also consider the qualitative and quantitative aspects of the impact, such as the satisfaction, engagement, learning, innovation, efficiency, quality, and revenue of your Product R&D collaboration. You should use appropriate methods and tools to analyze the results, such as charts, graphs, dashboards, reports, and stories.

After you have analyzed the results, you need to communicate them to your team, your partners, your customers, your stakeholders, and your competitors. You should use clear and concise language, visuals, and formats to convey the findings, and highlight the main achievements, challenges, and lessons learned from your Product R&D collaboration. You should also acknowledge the contributions, feedback, and support of each partner, and celebrate the successes and milestones of your Product R&D collaboration. Communicating the findings will help you demonstrate the value and impact of your Product R&D collaboration, and build trust and credibility with your audience.

You should also involve your partners in the implementation process, and agree on the roles, responsibilities, and resources that each partner will provide.
