How do you engage and interact with your audience after your content goes viral?

When you go viral, there will be thousands of comments - good & bad. It's easy to go down the rabbit hole of the negative comments and want to 'snap back' at those users. However, this provides no value to you or your audience. Instead, you should respond to the positive comments in a friendly manner. Even a simple emoji could make the person commenting's day. Focus on the positive comments. Respond to those users. Encourage them and let them know you appreciate them! The people who leave positive comments will do the dirty work for you with those who are leaving negative comments. Last note: the block button is your friend :) if there's someone consistently leaving negative comments - block them!

When a post goes viral, you'll receive a flood of comments, both positive and negative. It's tempting to get caught up in responding to negative feedback, but engaging with critics rarely benefits you or your audience. Instead, prioritize responding to the positive comments. Acknowledge and appreciate those who leave supportive messages, even if it's just with a friendly emoji. Engaging with positive feedback can boost morale and foster a supportive community, while your positive audience can often address the negativity themselves. And remember, don’t hesitate to use the block feature for persistent negative commenters—it's a valuable tool for maintaining a healthy online environment.

Communication is key in marketing. Always, respond and answer all comments. Be social, that's what social media is for. You can opt to create controversy, as well, if it fits into your brand. In agitation lies a lot of opportunity. However, be careful not to over blow it.

Providing ideas, tips and insights is important, but so is humility. LinkedIn is a great place for a conversation. Ask your audience for their suggestions and solutions. If you can create a sense of community from a post, you've done a great job.

With a viral post you have a chance to grab attention and use it to your advantage. Ask for more UGC content. How? Comment that the first 10 people who sends in via comment images/video of how they used your product/service will get a coupon or a complementary free gift.

Step: Motivate your audience to create and share their own content related to your viral post. Action: Run contests, create hashtags, or ask for their stories and experiences.

When you go viral, it's important to build off of that content to maintain and build on your momentum. The content went viral for a reason; it was either the insights you shared, the format of the content or another reason. The audience you reached with this viral content wants more! Once a video/post goes viral, create a part 2, 3 and 4 to the video. Post those after your viral post, then go back and see how it performed. If it doesn't perform well, it could've been that you changed something small - the format, hook or content itself. Continue building on viral content and watch your audience grow.

Just as in sales, also in marketing, follow up is essential. One viral post won't make your business thrive. You have to follow up. Learn why the post went viral and try reverse engineer it and create more similar posts. The devil is in the details. Look at what copy you used, was the creative the decisive factor? Learn, analyze and re-create.

After the viral wave of your mainstream content has almost diminished it is important to follow up and recap the technical and personal journey that lead you there. The ways to achieve this best are Behind the Scenes content as this displays both your persona on and off camera , it also shows the technical commitment you had to make this project a success. Personal content such as interviews and Q&As are also great as after the majority of your viewers have seen the on camera persona of you it's great to give a sense of what you are like off camera both in personality and appreciation for the industry.

Step: Develop new content that builds on the success of your viral post. Action: Share updates, behind-the-scenes footage, or related content that keeps the momentum going and maintains audience interest.

One thing that I looked at were the different types of people that had commented on my post - senior leaders, directors, business owners ... even celebrities ... use this as your opportunity to connect. There may even be experts in the field that you have chosen to discuss in your post, what better opportunity to ask them for some of their time to gain experience and knowledge.

Step: Examine the performance metrics of your viral content. Action: Use analytics tools to assess views, shares, engagement rates, and audience demographics.

Everybody loves free. Everybody loves a discount. Use it to your advantage and reward the engaged audience. This will create more online buzz and maybe some offline, too.

Step: Show appreciation to your audience for their support and engagement. Action: Offer giveaways, shoutouts, or exclusive content to your most active followers.

You will find that some of the comments will have recommendations, websites, suggestions and ideas ... go back through ALL of them and make a list of what all these are. I did this and it helped form the basis of what I was trying to achieve with my original post.

It's important to stay true to who we are even after going viral. Our values shouldn't change just because more people are paying attention. Keep replying to messages and comments, and keep creating content that matters. we can show our appreciation for the support by staying authentic and providing value every step of the way.

Getting viral is not just about a hype. It's a responsibility. Along with being viral, you become vulnerable to any inaccuracy you made in the past. So re-evaluate your brand. Have you ever had questionable and debatable tweets in the past? Is there any inaccurate information about your brand you need to fix? You need to get into these details before others can. With the sudden influx of visitors interested in your brand, one mistake can be your “Achilles heel”
