Timestamps are key to increase your spotting time in post production, but it can be distracting to note timestamps during a conversation. Luckily there’s an easy way to make all this a lot easier if you are using a multitrack recorder with sound board / card player like a Rodecaster. Create a low volume sound effect that’s very hard to hear and map it under a button of your card player. When you are multitrack editing later, you can check the sfx track and immediately see where there is a waveform instead of a flat line. You basically made your own markers for later use.

Sometimes you can get little glitches when editing an audio file which can be jarring. Try zooming in as far as you can into the waveform and positioning your edit point when it is at zero or closely matches where the previous cut is.

PRO TIP - always review an exported content, before publishing. It’s one thing to vet on an edit timeline, it’s another thing to pay attention to the exported, final material. You may want to review with fresh mind, eyes and ears. In my experience, skipping this step often results in avoidable (and sometimes embarrassing) errors during broadcast.

When exporting, try to export at the best quality settings first, so you have a master copy. This is likely a a WAV or AIFF at 24bit 48Khz as a minimum.

It's really important to wear headphones while you are editing. Relying on just your PC/laptop speakers will not give you the level of detail required - remember many of your podcast audience will be listening using headphones so you'll want to make sure you're hearing it like they are! There's no need to spend a fortune, a budget pair of headphones should do the job.

Listen back to your completed work in an environment that yor listener will likely use - headphones, but also a smart speaker, via laptop/tablet/phone speakers and even in the car if you can. The listening environment can enormosuly affect the listening experience. Consider where and how your audience will be listening.
