BTW, what is the salary range for the role? After you know more, you'd be happy to answer the question. If pressured, make it clear that you are not committed to that figure or range. After you know more about your role and responsibilities, etc., you can circle back if they are interested to discuss it with them. Their intention is to commit you to a number way before you know anything.

I often suggest to clients that they try to skip salary negotiations with a recruiter and instead, work directly with the hiring manager that they would be working for. It's OK to get a salary range from a recruiter but I don't suggest getting into specifics around salary with them if that can be avoided. The recruiter is more of a communications channel whereas the hiring manager is the one who controls the budget and if you are able to positively influence them, they are really the ones that can go to bat for you and give you more money than what was planned.
