Believe social presence can be useful and present drawbacks on a platform. I believe product managers must remember, every feature can create adverse consequences. For example, implementing social presence can cause more people to spend more time than necessary on your platform. Therefore leading to burnout, exhaustion, and negative health effects overtime.

Ed tech companies such as Flipgrid offer students an opportunity to have video discussions in an asynchronous manner. 2) Create a forum for students in the same cohort/major to communicate/collaborate safely and respectfully. This isn’t rocket science - it just requires a few extra steps and a desire for online students to feel like they are a part of the school beyond just being a number.
