From my experience, designing an interactive and memorable online event is all about keeping attendees engaged and involved. Start with personalized experiences—allow attendees to choose sessions or activities that matter to them. Use tools like polls, Q&A, and live chats to make them feel part of the conversation. Incorporate breakout rooms for networking and smaller group discussions, which help build connections. Don’t forget gamification—add fun challenges or quizzes to keep energy levels high. Also, make sure the tech is seamless; nothing kills the experience faster than technical issues. Finally, offer post-event content to keep the learning going and make the event feel valuable long after it’s over.

Definitely ask your audience what they want! This takes time. Be ready to think about what questions to ask, not just to the people who attended, but to individuals who might have attended in previous years, but didn't come back. A combination of focus groups, online surveys, and individual interviews works well. Once you have that data, planning for the topics, structure, and event themes comes quickly!

Otherwise, keep the tech as simple as possible and focus on amplifying the message.

It's really about the size of the group and the motives you have. There are so many plattforms out there which all have different USPs. There's lots of fancy tools which implement gamification and interaction features - which doesn't help if you don't use them. Don't overthink your plattform for basic business events. Talk to the clients IT first. Most of the time the exiting tools can't be implemented anyways due to corporate guidelines.

Attendees also LOVE snapping pictures of visual notes and sharing them online, which increases you event's social reach. Your artist can also create an engagement wall or interactive mural to keep the conversation going during breaks, gathering valuable feedback and ideas from attendees.
