1 Identify your purpose and goals

Before you start designing your stakeholder engagement workshop or event, you need to clarify what you want to achieve and why. You should also test your materials and logistics beforehand, and have a backup plan in case of any unforeseen issues or changes.

4 Engage your stakeholders

During your workshop or event, you need to engage your stakeholders in a way that is respectful, responsive, and relevant. This means that you need to establish rapport and trust with your stakeholders, listen actively and empathetically to their perspectives and needs, ask open-ended and probing questions to elicit deeper insights and feedback, facilitate constructive dialogue and collaboration among diverse and potentially conflicting stakeholders, and adapt your methods and tools to the emerging dynamics and situations of the group. You also need to manage your time, energy, and emotions effectively, and balance your role as a leader, facilitator, and learner.
