How do you design and assemble a custom computer system for a specific purpose or client?

I couldn't agree with this more. A person that I know just bought a gaming pc for just web browsing. So it's a bit overkill for what it's being used for.

I agree with some points Specifically how much your budget. But the most important part is what is the required performance ? Can I upgrade my computer later? Will my work require more improvement on my computer?

The purpose of why they need a computer is the most vital info that is needed to start. From there we can determine what hardware and software specifications that are suited for the user

First thing you ask if what the computer will be used for and then there budget, with a enough research and price checking. you should be able to grab great deals but always make sure the customer is happy with your selection.

Using parts from equipment not being used is a great way to save dollars. Just make sure the parts being used are functioning well.

Use a site like pcpartpicker_dot_com to build your pc. This site will even give you warnings when parts are not compatible. Plus it will filter additional items based on compatibility.

Vendor selection for acquiring the components should also be considered. Some vendors are more superior for accommodating returns and warranty claims than others. Purchasing all components from the same source verses shopping for the lowest cost on each item should also be evaluated. Do you normally maintain detailed records on when and where you purchase items from? If not, perhaps purchasing from a single source might be a better choice from a records management perspective.

Need to make sure the PC parts are compatible, making sure to check the wattage of the components make to sure when the system is under full load. IMO make sure you don't cheap on the motherboard and Power supply. And also making sure to overspend on silly features that manufactures put on Motherboards these days to bump the price. Specially if the PC to being built for gaming in my experience.

Also, it’s a good idea if using older part that you make sure that they are not soon to be deprecated because a lot of times parts go un supported after so many years now months.

Make sure you have a full screw driver set and making sure you have a lot of space to put the parts around your workstation. My number one tip would be to make sure you use a bowl or something to store all the different screws so you don't misplace them or get them confused.

Yes this is standard procedure in building your pc on your own unless you want to waste more money simply because you forgot to follow those rule of thumb and you damage your computer parts. I usually wrap around the screw drivers with electrical tape and only the tip of it showing to avoid shorts circuit

Why would you install the motherboard twice? The steps here have you install the motherboard and then mount the motherboard into the case again. Should probably be more clear on when to install the motherboard. The motherboard CPU cooler can need screws installed through the bottom side of the motherboard. This is where we differ, in my experience you should start by installing the easier components onto the motherboard first (RAM, CPU, CPU cooler if it’s an air cooler, storage such as M.2). Important to note that new CPU already come with thermal paste applied, if you’re adding thermal paste of your own, do not do more than a pea size. Once those components are installed I start putting the assembled motherboard inside the case and securing it. And after that just plug in the cables from the IO, fans and power supply onto the correct spots in the motherboard(refer to mobo manual). Last thing I would install is the GPU as it tends to be one of the bigger and most delicate parts.

When installing the CPU it should only fit one way. Look for an arrow on the board and chip and align them. Less is more when applying thermal paste. Apply a thin layer to the CPU and spread it. Clean up any excess with alcohol and a papertowel before mounting the CPU fan. Anytime the CPU fan is removed the thermal paste must be cleaned from the CPU and heat sink, then applied again.

Do not overtighten screws or standoffs and take extra care not to cross-thread and fittings. Consider cable management and routing before rather than after. Read the manual to identify the positive pins for all your LEDs.

Better start with the default settings and the usual config of bios or uefi becuase this depends on the os system your going to use. Consult the manuals regarding on the clocking setup to use the full potential of your system but be sure that you use a good set of cooling system and pc is well ventilated to disperse heat which created by the system

Agreed with going into the BIOS however, in the first boot I would just adjust the booting order to make sure everything runs at default settings. In the case the computer does not start or run properly, please check components such as RAM and GPU are properly fitted in, as they tend to be common issues and easy fixes

When installing windows please explore your options for license keys as they can differ vastly in pricing depending on where you look. I agree with everything else here regarding updating drivers and software in general.

If you're not sure if you want to build your own PC. You can always buy a pre-made, and upgrade it. Sometimes it can be cheaper to do this. Also if you've never done it before, it can be funner just to upgrade the parts, then later when build your own. Just beware that parts can arrive DOA (Dead On Arrival), if purchasing online. Either way just have fun with it, you may want to make a career out of it.
