At the end of each week, I like to look back and see exactly what I accomplished in my productivity planner. If I spent too long on a task or didn’t complete one, I like to reflect with a couple of bullet points on what happened to cause this. You can then easily pull up these bullets at the end of a quarter or half-year to look for patterns and root causes that you might be missing. (For example, you might notice that you consistently don’t complete your task on Friday because you have an afternoon meeting on that day. Which means you might take action to move that meeting to the morning.)

All the admin work and repetitive tasks you do in a day can be major drains on your productivity metrics.
