1 Check the doctype

Gladly, Many code editors have shortcuts to declare doctype. For example in VSCode, type ! and then press the tab key. This will automatic populate all you need to setup for a basic webpage.

If given these pages. first thing I would ask for wire-frame designs for desktop, tablet and mobile.From there I will be able to know the objectives of the designs and what the designer intended to achieve based on the business needs or functionality. Then I will proceed to the intended User Experience/UX across the devices in relation to content presented to user, different devices have different strong points. I will inspect the code using browser developer tools to see the quality of the code and scope of divisions, sections and other necessary elements. At this point I will be able to know which scope of code I need to refactor to achieve the responsiveness of the pages across the devices without compromising on other aspects.

In my opinion, having <!DOCTYPE html> at the top of a document is less of an issue nowadays since it's not technically required for HTML5. However, it's a good practise to always include it for compatibility reasons.

You could also install extensions in IDE to do the validations. HTMLHint is such an extension which can be used in VS Code so you can handle this while developing the app or page.

3 Use developer tools

Debugging HTML5 web pages can be made easier by using the developer tools that are built into most modern browsers. To access these tools, press F12 or Ctrl+Shift+I on your keyboard, or right-click on an element and select Inspect. Use media queries in order to apply specific CSS rules to certain screen widths. @media only screen and (max-width: 600px) { .container { flex-wrap: wrap; } } Using CSS grid or flexbox comes handy with supporting multiple screen sizes.
