After you define this, put the most important metrics into dashboards for easy access and context. This distilled view will allow you to see this important data at a glance, and it won't require you to remember where the information is while under stress. Most dashboard tools allow you to include text, and this can be used for documentation such as contact info, thresholds, or business context. Organize your dashboards based on use cases and audiences. For example, capacity-related metrics can be in one dashboard and business metrics in another. If you have a large environment, you will need to organize by area or service, as well.

Ensure that people working understand that you're intending to work in parallel. Often people end up waiting on some other task that they don't depend on and waste valuable time. Another common pitfall is fingerpointing at "everything else" before they look at their component. Attempting to list every possible scenario before trying to test and evaluate them wastes time and floods people with too much information. Take a more depth-first approach by developing and testing a few hypotheses at a time. Finally, have a bias towards acting. If you notice that no one has made a decision or ruled anything in or out, it may be crucial to accept some risk and do something that may help. Sense making can be done after the incident.
