The first few things I look at in an overheating scenerio is voltage on your CPU and GPU. There are some extermely power hungry parts in slim machines nowadays and high output power means heat. Being able to undervolt components is key in modern laptops, this will lengthen the life of your components and lower the heat which should decrease the fan noise. The next step is checking for a decent thermal paste application. Older laptops might have thermal paste that has dried so a new application is a must to keep temps and noise down. While you are in there, giving the fans and machine a quick dusting with compressed air is also a good idea. The next thing I do is ensure the machines vents have proper space to breathe with a cooling pad.
