This mostly makes no sense. UX doesn't have "trends." It's always in style to be usable, logical, intuitive, and matching or exceeding users' needs. UI might have trends, but UX really doesn't have trends. Which means you're not creating new ones, even if you run a crappy survey. :)

User should be the center of your designs. I repeat. Whenever you begin a design it js extremely imprtant to understand whom you are designing for. Once you know your users, try to understand them. Now there are various way to do this- desk research, interviews, surveys, questionnaire etc. But one of the most important approache is qualitative interviews. I cannot stress enough how big a role it has in empathising with users, getting pain points right, and eventually drawing solutions from it. Your users don't always know what they need, but it is your responsibility as a designer to put yourself in user's shoes time and again to understand their problem and eventually solve them.

Remember that every product/service has its own unique audience with different needs and backgrounds. What may be a best practice in Europe may be confusing to an audience in Latam with a very different background.

Trend derive from a new ways of doing something that generates buzz and some UX practitioners start adopting. A great way is taking some existing and remixing. For example, Zara asked "how can we better improve our factory operations" and they looked to the car manufacturing industry. Observe. Remix. Improve.

There are some B2C principles that can be adapted to B2B, and vice versa. Don’t get stuck in an echo chamber of the same terms, look and feel. Get inspired elsewhere and iterate.

Testing is as much as important as designing solution. Often as designers you forget to check whether the proposed solution is necessary, whether the problem solved was important enough. Testing is important to remove redundant solutions so that you dont reinvent the wheel. Often while spending enough time with the design, designers forget to look the better picture and if the solution fits the space. In that case testing is necessary to gather feedback. Once the feedback is here, drawing insights and patterns from it is the next step. With these insights, you iterate the process again, propose improved solutions abd apply it.

This is the moment of truth. A lot of designers and product managers don't put much importance into testing and iterating, and it surprises me. It's important to follow the above steps to formulate a logic-driven hypothesis. However, the success all depends on how sticky the experience is to the user. How would you know? you test it with real users. Then it’s all about observing and learning from the feedback. You can decide to iterate or pivot with that. This is the ONLY way to know. So don’t skip this step.

Innovation and collaboration work hand in hand, there's no other way around it. Even when I work as a freelancer on a project, I always ask at least one UX colleague to give me their feedback on what I'm working on. Their input allows me to catch some things that I could do better or reinforce the methods I use when I present to the client. That's why networking is so important in this day and age. Surround yourself with the type of designer you want to be and don't be afraid to reach out to Senior designers for advice or feedback. You would be surprised how many of them answer back.

Another wacky AI article. You don't create UX trends (agree with Bar below). Trends are fads. They come and go. We put shadows under digital buttons, we don't put shadows under digital buttons. But the user experience isn't a trend. You can't create a "trend" and you shouldn't try. Just work on creating the best user experiences for your target audiences. That's what they want.

How do you create new UX trends? You don't. Every time someone tries to invent the wheel it creates systems that are difficult/annoying to use. Create a new user experience on a small scale by asking volunteers to examine and test it. If it works, publish it to another small group of users, and then add it to all users.

You can't create new trends intentionally. New trends arise when you are solving a problem in a novel way that doesn't fit within the boundaries of what's standard. Establishing a trend usually requires that: - There is a problem that can be solved in a better way - The solution is different to what is considered standard in the industry - The solution is well received by its audience - That solution can be applied to many different problems When we design solutions that meet the above criteria, there is a chance that they are repeated and used to solve a multitude of problems across industries, companies and teams. That's how UX trends arise.

Cavet to trends, sometimes they last, sometimes they don't. It's fun to jump on the ride, but fundamentals are more important skill in your toolbox.

As others have mentioned, designing something new for the sake of "new" is a very weak measure of good design. HOWEVER, UX (mostly for better, but sometimes for worse) is a discipline that leans heavily on patterns. This is not always good! As digital designers that often aim for near-term user "fluidity", many times we don't take time to understand opportunities that may take more experimentation/investigation. Leaning on patterns day in and day out , while mostly effective, can also make us lazy designers. The idea of leaning on patterns, if scaled out for time, in and of itself doesn't make sense because as we all know, digital experiences evolve. If they evolve, then logical conclusion is that todays stuff isn't always best.
