Words can carry different meanings across cultures, and they might differentiate between formal and informal language or require specific terms when addressing senior leaders. As a leadership coach, I've learned that authenticity is key—sharing personal anecdotes or successes can create a connection. It's also essential to understand and respect cultural differences, tailoring your message to resonate with varying values and perspectives. Use reliable data and evidence to back up your claims, demonstrating thorough research. By being transparent and sincere, you build trust, making your message more impactful and engaging.

What I’ve found helpful in my own experience is when I put myself in their shoes & start thinking like them, I start acting like them too. Then they understand me. When I am coming from the same place & perspective as the audience, they understand what I’m trying to put across. Doing the same in a diverse setting would involve knowing the audience, understanding the diversity amongst them & then tailoring my approach towards each “set” of people, would ensure that I get through to them. Once an emotional cord his hit with the audience , they start trusting you & once trust is built, it is easy to get them to get their guards down & participate in the conversation or connect with the topic.

Pathos, according to Aristotle, is using emotions to influence opinions, connecting on an emotional level to guide actions. While we value logic, emotions often drive decisions. Through impactful words or visuals, like a marine animal trapped in plastic, emotions have significant sway. As a speaker, emphasizing certain points shapes your message. Tapping into emotions, as Aristotle suggests, can be a powerful alternative when logical arguments don't suffice.
