How do you compare product validation and testing methods?

There are few things you can do to make product validation a success and avoid wasting time and resources 1) Utilize the Jobs to be done framework to confirm that your product is solving the real consumer need 2) Build a mockup, small prototype and Use Ethnographic research to see how consumers are using the product in their environment 3) Use consumer interview to understand if the problems you identified and the solution that you have proposed is what consumers need. 4) Utilize the consumer surveys to allow for testing and validating assumptions and theories that you have. 5) Use Super Users that can test your solution and provide possible improvements points from their side.

It's amazing how many if these automated articles miss out on beta testing as a key product validation testing method. Product ideas vary in terms of fidelity. The true test before launching a product is beta testing. The test allows you to get your product into the wild and be used as if it were launched.

Product validation has a large scope and what's written here doesn't even cover an atom! Validation could be for an idea or could be for a full product itself before launch. Validation on hardware products include certification & qualification by external agencies before launch. The scope of validation cannot be just at a MVP level!

It does involve testing quality, performance, usability, and functionality—however, this term often questions who is performing the test. My recommendation is that you do both end user testing and internal QA testing :P

Product testing & validation are completely different things! They are poles apart! Testing would include design verification, multiple rounds of QA, user test, functional test, performance test, load test, stress test, etc. Once technically strong, the functional and user portions are tested before going into a "validation mode". This is where the product validation comes in. Beta tests, UATs, testing by compliance agencies, etc. all these are done. Typically product validation is the last step before launch, while product testing is an integral part of development!
