Leading with Purpose: Unlocking the Full Potential of Your Organisation

As a global leader who participated in the World Economic Forum earlier this year, I witnessed firsthand the growing importance of purpose-driven leadership in the future of work.?

Companies that prioritize purpose beyond profit will attract and retain talent, build customer loyalty, and generate a positive impact on society and the planet.


But how can your leadership connect your teams to a higher purpose and create a sense of meaning and fulfillment in their work? Here are some insights I gained from the World Economic Forum and my own experience:


Define a clear and inspiring purpose

A purpose should be more than a slogan or a marketing gimmick. It should be a statement of why your organization exists, what it contributes to society, and what values it embodies. A purpose can inspire and align people across different functions, geographies, and cultures. It can also guide decision-making and innovation, as well as serve as a source of resilience and motivation in times of uncertainty and change.


Embed purpose into strategy and operations

A purpose should not be separate from the core business strategy and operations. It should be integrated into every aspect of the organization, from product design to customer service, from employee development to stakeholder engagement. As leaders, you should measure and communicate the impact of the organization's purpose on various stakeholders, not just shareholders, and hold them accountable for delivering on their purpose.


Empower and engage employees as purpose ambassadors

A purpose can only be realized if it is shared and lived by everyone in the organization. Leaders, involve employees in defining and refining the purpose and provide them with the resources, skills, and incentives to act on it. You should also recognize and celebrate the purpose-driven behaviors and achievements of employees, and create a culture that fosters collaboration, creativity, and learning.


Collaborate and co-create with stakeholders

A purpose-driven organization should not operate in a vacuum. It should actively seek and embrace the perspectives and contributions of its stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, partners, communities, and regulators. As leaders, you should listen to and learn from diverse voices, and co-create solutions that address shared challenges and opportunities. Be transparent and accountable about your impact on stakeholders, and seek feedback and improvement.


In conclusion, purpose-driven leadership is not a luxury or a fad, but a necessity and an opportunity for the future of work. By connecting your teams to a higher purpose, creating a sense of meaning and fulfillment in their work, and contributing to a better society, you can unlock the full potential of your organization and make a positive difference in the world.

Love your insights, Natalie Schrogl, on how to unlock full potential. It is probably an over simplification, but my take away- Know your purpose, share your purpose, and have people with that shared purpose help collaborate and co-create the plan to fulfill that purpose.
