How do you collaborate and communicate with other writers, editors, and clients?

Make A Connection- We can elaborate on the structure of communication & organization as intimated by another contributor. However my perspective on the matter is that collaborative interaction is likened to any & all relationships. One has to foster trust, confidence, authenticity & friendliness to effectively communicate & have a beneficial working relationship. Additionally I do agree that avoiding delays by having set boundaries is of great benefit. ?? Blessings...

It's easy to feel intimidated when starting a new project with unfamiliar collaborators. My biggest piece of advice is to remember: each person brings something unique to the table. Respect your team and their suggestions, and don't be afraid to ask questions. Create a document or use a project management tool like Asana, Monday, or Notion to track progress and ensure everyone's on the same page from day one.

As a freelance/contract writer and editor for several of the largest digital publications in America, Google Docs is my go-to platform for collaboration. It makes it easy to share and edit documents, and its version tracking feature ensures you have a record of any changes made.

Learning to take feedback is one of the most important skills you can develop in your writing career. Allowing others to critique your work feels vulnerable, but it's a necessary part of growth. Never let it discourage you or affect your confidence. Instead, you can use it to identify areas for improvement and develop new techniques.

Find the Soul I have a writer friend with whom I can share anything. Why is this so? Because there is trust, life knowledge and experience with the other (thus, no hiding), and appreciation of the other’s work (no matter the state or stage). This is a rare grace in this part of my life. It fosters real listening, absorbing, honest feedback, and sometimes the comfort of knowing another now knows this piece of your soul. However, communication is just as important … in everything. So, find the soul in all. Communicate as carefully, preparedly, honestly, boldly, and transparently as you are able. Finding the soul in another is the basis for maybe hard, maybe amazing, but almost always worthy progress, if not mutual growth.

Working with peers, editors, and mentors has been invaluable for my growth. I've also learned a lot from having Zoom meetings with other writers, even one's that are in very different fields. Just comparing workflows and tips can open up a world of new ideas.
