5 Control the process

The final step is to monitor and control the process to ensure that the improvements are sustained and variation and defects are minimized. This will help maintain quality and efficiency, as well as prevent recurrence of the problem. Control charts, statistical process control (SPC), and standard operating procedure (SOP) documents are all common tools used in this step. Control charts show variation of a process over time, using upper and lower control limits and a center line.
