2 Why calibrate a VU meter?

Calibrating a VU meter means setting a reference level that corresponds to a specific value on the meter's scale. For example, you might calibrate your VU meter so that 0 dBVU (the center of the scale) equals -18 dBFS (the standard digital level for headroom). 3 How to calibrate a VU meter?

This gives an initial good starting point on the balance between the kick and the bass.
