How do you build a Web3 community?

It's better to start with the mission, as nothing collects people better. Once the mission is clear and delivered, the time for building the additional Layers of engagement, incentives, use cases, NFTs, and other stuff has come.

As a community manager in the Web3 space, I've found that defining a clear purpose is the foundation for fostering a vibrant and engaged community. Your purpose should resonate with the ethos of Web3, emphasizing decentralization, transparency, and empowerment. It's about addressing real problems, seizing opportunities, and creating a meaningful impact. This purpose serves as your North Star, guiding your strategy, content, and interactions within the community. 1)Start with the right intentions and established values. The right people and target audience will gravitate towards it. 2)Make sure you optimize SEO so people can find you easily on Discord, Twitter (x), LinkedIn, IG etc. (If you need help with this, I know a guy) 3)Always engage and respond. Engagement is KEY! You want your community to feel like, well..... a community. Hire a team to engage with your community 24/7. 4) Don't spam.... 5) Market, market, market. Hire an excellent marketing leader/strategist who's willing to get their hands dirty to 10x your community. #growth

The worst thing you can do in Web3 marketing is to post content with no defined purpose in mind. Solution: First step is to define your goal. Why? You will keep this purpose in mind and every piece of content, every action you take from that point forward, has to be towards achieving that goal

LinkedIn is a great place to build a community. I chose it for my Web3 blog and I am very glad I did: I have the opportunity to share my insights, knowledge and experience with a small yet curious audience. With time, you can grow your community through participating in events, adding videos and sharing material.

An often overlooked factor in determining your ideal platform/s for your community is flexibility. This is not much of a factor for those who are just starting to build their communities, but for those who currently maintain them, it also pays to have a regular check of how many people still use that platform, and how many people are shifting from one platform to another. This is where having more than one option for platforms is necessary. If you go all in on Twitter only to find out that your target audience prefers Discord more, then you miss out on that opportunity.

When starting a Web3 community, finding the right platforms and avenues for user connection is key, especially as the community is still in its infancy. Understand your audience, targeting active Web3 users predominantly found on platforms like Telegram, Discord, and Twitter, where there's a high concentration of engaged and interested individuals. These existing platforms can allow you to start targeting users that are subscribed to a similar product or interest that aligns with your project. (example: users subscribed to a wallet channel could be interested in Defi platforms) Creating partnerships in the space and co-advertising on each others socials or groups, can allow you to further access communities with convertible users.

The era of consumers has gone, and the era of stakeholders has arrived. Build the incentivizing programs for the contributors, that will help your trusted members being rewarded. You can do 3 level of WL campaign: 1st - do a follow, like , comment WP and RT 2st - connect the wallet and sign up for a newsletter 3st - buy the $X token on 50$ After each level, you can mint the NFT with already being engrained rewards from treasury there. You should have a permanent template for any given time to nurture users through it.

Promote a culture of gamification within your community, stimulating active involvement. Value signifies the benefits that members gain from participation, whether it's knowledge, inspiration, support, or entertainment. Incentives act as catalysts motivating contributions and collaboration, encompassing recognition, rewards, reputation, and ownership. To construct an alluring value proposition and incentive structure, tailor them to your community's mission, chosen platform, and specific audience. Leverage Web3 tools like tokens, smart contracts, and gamification to amplify the community's appeal. By embracing gamification, you can enhance engagement and create an interactive, rewarding experience for your Web3 community.

People love being heard. If they feel they are valued, their opinion matters, and you build with them in mind - you will have a super-devoted community even if you don't create any tangible incentives for them. The incentivized audience is not loyal, it's there while you "pay". Your core community isn't there for the monetary rewards.

In my experience, one of the best ways to add value to your community is by inviting them to co-create experiences together. This approach brings direct feedback on how to satisfy and engage with your community, providing them with the value they truly desire. Gamifying these experiences motivates community members to be more involved, striving for incentives in a more interactive and fun way.

Be Transparent and Trustworthy: Maintain clear, honest communication about your project's development, challenges, and successes. Transparency builds trust, a crucial element in sustaining a long-term, engaged community.

I've been the co-founder of Request Network, which launched the REQ token in 2017. I'm also the co-founder at web3cfo.club, a community of +650 people in Web3 finance and operations. In my experience, there is a difference between a Web3 community with a token and another without a token. Token-based communities are more complex to manage, in my opinion, because you need qualitative conversations and people sharing the same values. At the same time, the token price evolutions attract the most followers. Communities with no token are more accessible because people who share the same values build solid foundations, and cooperation matters.

I went through dozens of launches in Web3. 1.000.000+ reached people in the communities. What I realized thou? Nothing obsesses the community better, than the answer to big "WHY?". Once it is defined - there is a question of time and tools to ensure viral growth.

Growing and nurturing your Web3 community is an ongoing process that involves both expansion and care. To grow, attract like-minded individuals who resonate with your purpose and values, offering them a platform to contribute and benefit. Leverage diverse social channels like Telegram and Discord to promote your community, showcasing its unique offerings. Additionally, retaining and nurturing existing members is essential. Create a sense of belonging, trust, and collaboration within the community by employing feedback, moderation, polls, quizzes, challenges, and contests. These activities ensure your Web3 community thrives and flourishes, fostering meaningful connections and shared goals among its members.

Its important to understand the difference between an audience and community. It relatively easy to grow an audience. Community is harder.

Make sure you don't forget to ask your community: - What do you value in our community? - Why are you active here? or - Why have you been less active recently? - What should we improve? Reflect on this feedback, implement the takeaways and see how your community grows organically.

One things I have found helpful is defining who will be the ideal user for the community you are trying to build. Identifying why and how the community can make this user incentivised in participating in the community can help with targeting and growing the community. As the community grows from 1-100, 100-1000, 1000-10000 and more, one needs to go back the redefine this based on each stage of the community building.

The choice of strategy depends on your product, budget, and the size and nature of your community. It's important to note that striving for perfection and complete decentralization from day one isn't always the best approach for gaining traction. Sometimes, leveraging simpler Web2 tools can save time and be more effective initially.

To cultivate a successful Web3 community: 1. Empower Your Members: Provide them with opportunities to voice opinions, make choices, and take part in decision-making. Implement Web3 tools that enable communication, voting, and proposal submissions, allowing members to actively shape the community's vision, goals, and rules. 2. Decentralize the Community Structure: Distribute power, responsibility, and ownership among members. Utilize Web3 technologies and protocols to foster a community that is resilient, transparent, and autonomous, where members have control over their data, identity, and assets. This approach not only strengthens the community but also aligns it with the core ethos of Web3 – decentralization and empowerment.

Empowering the community is critical. I voluntarily didn't say "your community" as you should see it as a living entity that changes, evolves, and grows in various directions. Giving the community a direction and a frame to do so is the best way to get people to feel empowered and so they will be active and contribute to the better good of the group.

Community governance and structure is necessary to ensure that community provides safety and value to users and projects. Community management should be separated from protocol management. Ideally their is interface between the community and project team but if you look at the example of ETH, the best community leadership is involved with significant stake holders, not just project team.

Depending on the project, community needs and potential can vary significantly. However, there's always room for some joint activities to identify the strengths of your community members and utilize them for the sake of the entire community. Don't be afraid to experiment and try new things. Make sure everyone knows you are experimenting and why you are doing this, so that the safe environment will foster creativity.

To continuously evolve in a Web3 community: Encourage Continuous Learning: Foster a culture of knowledge sharing within your community. Utilize Web3 platforms for accessing and distributing educational content like courses, webinars, and blogs. Foster Innovation: Collaborate with your community to develop and experiment with new solutions and products. Leverage Web3 technologies for creating projects like DAOs, NFTs, DeFi applications, or other Web3 apps. By combining learning with innovation, your community stays ahead in the dynamic Web3 space, adapting to changes and exploring new possibilities together.

Learning and innovating with your community is crucial for its success. In my experience, transparency is key. Being transparent about what, why, and when you are doing something can go a long way with a Web3 community, which essentially can be your company's or project's stakeholders as well. Transparency builds trust and makes the community more resilient to things that might not always work. Don't be afraid to be honest and upfront with your community!

Define your community's purpose and values. What brings members together? What do they care about? Create spaces for community interaction. Set up a Discord server, Telegram channel, forum etc. Share knowledge. Host educational sessions, and produce content explaining Web3 concepts. Encourage participation. Run contests, give roles to engaged members, recognize contributions. Build relationships. Get to know members, be transparent and accessible as a leader. Distribute ownership. Let members guide activities, give them ownership in the community. Stay open. Welcome new members and ideas. Keep evolving based on community input.

Your community needs utility. Think of community utility as the value prop for your members. To discover your community utility you need to know what segments you’re catering to. In Safary, we originally targeted 5 segments: Web3 growth leaders, web3 founders, web2 growth leaders, crypto VCs, and corporate innovators. But soon it became clear that web3 growth leaders both received the most value and had the most to give. Other segments were engaged, but didn't always have as much to offer. Remember that a community for everyone is actually a community for no one.

Easy, just promise everyone they'll be the next digital Rockefeller. Real advice: focus on genuine engagement, not just blockchain buzzwords. Start by understanding your audience's needs and interests. Create valuable content, foster open discussions, and use the technology to enhance, not complicate, user experiences. Remember, a community built on hype is like a castle on sand—impressive until the tide comes in. Invest in relationships, not just transactions. In Web3, trust is your currency.

For building a Web3 community: 1. Identify a Core Group with a Real Problem: Begin by finding a small, focused group facing a specific challenge that your project can effectively address. 2. Prioritize Solution Effectiveness and Satisfaction: Ensure that your solution truly resolves the group's problem and that the initial members are satisfied with the outcome. 3. Leverage Organic Growth: A contented and loyal initial community often becomes a catalyst for growth. These early adopters, or innovators, are likely to recommend your project within their networks, naturally attracting your ideal customer persona. This approach builds a strong community, where growth is driven by genuine value and satisfaction.

I guess all marketing teams know in theory what they have to do, but in Web3 each project has unique challenges and limited channels to get exposure.
