I had a boss who always had a connection when anyone needed a resource, skill or muscle. He was a connector and most importantly, when he reached out to any of his contacts for support, they were happy to help. He’d schedule calls with old colleagues. Send notes or a relevant articles to acquaintances, send a card for birthdays or their kids major milestone birthdays. He was skilled at following up to build and strengthen relationships. This kept him relevant to his contacts. What I learned by observing him: 1. Make reaching out to add value to a relationship a habit. 2. Even when parting jobs, get the contact info and share your contact with those you want to continue with in your journey. 3. Be a resource when appropriate.

The sixth step to building a support network is to evaluate and adjust your network as you go along. Your needs and goals may change over time, and so may the people in your network. You may want to add new people, remove some people, or change the nature of your relationships.
