1 Define your purpose and goals

Before you invite people to join your CoP, you need to have a clear vision of what you want to achieve and how you want to facilitate the learning process. What is the main topic or theme of your CoP? What are the benefits of joining it? What are the expectations and responsibilities of the members? How will you communicate and collaborate with them? How will you measure the impact and value of your CoP? Having a clear purpose and goals will help you attract and retain the right people for your CoP.

A Community of Practice (CoP) has so much potential power! A CoP is a group of like-minded people that come together to solve a problem, support each other, and provide accountability. When starting a CoP, it helps to begin with the end in mind. Here are a few questions to ask as you get started. → What are the qualifications or criteria for individual community members? → What problem or problems will they be solving? → How much time do you expect people to participate? Weekly? Monthly? Quarterly? → Will participation be asynchronous (through message boards/DMs/email etc.) or with set time-bound meetings? → What networks can you tap into to bring a group together? You are now on your way to creating a powerful CoP!

Here's my approach to setting goals and purpose/kicking off strong: Expectations and Responsibilities-- Aim for active participation Respectful Communication Confidentiality Communication and Collaboration-- Newsletters: Share updates, success stories, and event info. 2 Choose your platform and tools
