Becoming a writer is simple ; read other peoples works , read , and always read , in addition to this, learn how to write . Have a mentor . Follow the area of interest you plan writing on . For me , as a media professional, I have been able to horn my writing skills through following the likes of the BBC , Aljazeera , Efe , Reuters to name a few. It has capacitated me so much and be able to match many of those writers in these tops news institutions owing to persistent learning and reading .

Start with reading. Read everyday, preferably long form. Read authors and columnists you like as well as dislike. Make reading a habit. Reading helps you to think and get clarity. Only clarity can help you write, unless you want to shitpost on social media. Once you have that clarity, read up on good writing, maybe style guides and specialist books like The Pyramid Principle. Being a senior writer is not just about rank or heading a group of other writers in some big company somewhere in Hollywood. It is not also a matter of how much you earn as a writer. None of those things qualify you to be called a senior writer. Becoming a senior writer is everything, your experience, the projects you've worked on, the professionality, the timeliness of your submissions your education and how ready and open you are to learning. To become a senior writer, you should possess wide range of skill sets like, good listening, editing, proofreading, presentation, leadership, team spirit, etc. To become a senior writer, you need to be versatile. It is not about how long you've been a writer.

Becoming a senior writer hinges on perseverance, resilience, and maintaining a consistent writing practice, regardless of feedback. Embrace every opportunity in the early stages, staying open to diverse projects. As you progress, refine your focus and select clients that align with your interests. Senior writers often have niche expertise (mine is financial technology, for example). Clients are looking for that expertise so I have to showcase it at every turn. It's in my LinkedIn profile, it's in the About Me, and included the skills section of my profile. I'm not showcasing writing skills, per se - but knowledge that's specific to the industry (payments, mortgages, compliance, etc). That sets me apart from other writers. Then my portfolio backs up what I'm showing on LinkedIn through the clients I feature and the work included. I'm constantly updating my portfolio (every few weeks) to add new examples of my work and make sure the best examples are emphasized. I also routinely ask clients to leave LinkedIn recommendations.

Writers are to focus on their experience and acumen regarding the subject they are writing about. That is, if your goal is to become an expert reference to an specific matter.
