Developing and using (encapsulated) exported procedures and how to group and name them 4. SQL becomes more and more important 5. Use the (latest) enhancements in your programming language and use new technologies ... and the most important educate your staff so everybody is on a top level

- be strong in fundamentals - Understand the application landscape and try to be sme - Know the business purpose of the application - Do not attempt for short term fix instead always look at the big picture. - Take up the ownership of small modules and deliver end to end. - Be a go to person for junior developers. Guide with them dos and donts - Do architectural and technical suggestions to your leads and architects - Try to innovate and try doing things differently. Question the traditional way? - Guide the QA team with both technical and functional use cases to make a robust test bed

Becoming senior developer should never be a goal. Instead, try to learn the behaviors, traits and habits of a senior developer and emulate them to become a better developer. Seniority comes as a bonus. Some great behaviors I have seen in Senior developers are planning the changes required before actually writing a single line of code, learning things deep while also being comfortable with abstractions when necessary, mentoring peers to nudge towards the solutions instead of giving them away, communicating the deliverables and managing expectations clearly. Once you start acting like a senior or a mentor in your team, your senior title isn’t far behind.

Develop strong communication skills to effectively convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You also need to have the passion for continous learning to stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices.

Be mean, arrogant and antagonistic...see how far you get. Do the opposite, sprinkle in some passion, perhaps collaborative tech sessions, try to enjoy your time with the team. One thing I try to remind myself and others is that we only get to do this "once", as in we have one life, make the most of it. Be passionate, be persuasive, be engaged and genuine...from there you will find that people want to follow. Next step is to keep the energy, it is hard being a leader especially for engineers who typically are introverted and would much rather put on headphones and sling some code. As the Senior, you have to engage the other humans, they really do appreciate it when you say hi every once in a while.

Examples are very important. We always had skeletons or sample programs for specific problems. So for new programs with a similar problem it is easy to search though your samples and copy an modify what you need. If a new problem occurs you may then make a new example for the next one. ... but in either way also these examples should be reworked from time to time to stay on the newest technologies.

Technical skills arent the only necessary skills Clean efficient code and all the other great coding skills are only scratching the surface Learn your customers business and understand their pain points and how you can address those Do that with excellent technical skill. Write clean efficient maintainable code. Set that bar for yourself and for the team(s) you oversee

Also, if you have the ability, take to teaching your juniors/mentoring them, this will solidify your standing as an acknowledged Senior Developer in your group.
