I agree with a lot of this but feel the practical side is a little overlooked. Realistically electrical and instrumentation teams are hard to manage without a good practical knowledge of systems. If you haven’t been down on the ground under a filthy pipe recalibrating a sensor or pulling cables etc then it is difficult to apprehend these issues and ask others to do the same. The biggest asset you can ever have is attitude and willingness to learn. You will never be a master of all E and I systems (especially if you become a manager away from the tools) so you need to listen and learn all the time from experts in the field. And finally ASK QUESTIONS!
