How do you become an assistant product manager?

In my experience, an assistant product manager dive deep into data, understanding product performance in view of customer satisfaction and product deliveries. A good PM has great understanding of the market, and becomes a bridge connecting the team to the users.

My jurny with PM started in Technical Department at local/country level. At that time I was supporting my colleagues with wide range of issues connected to the product. As the role required good knowledge of market, competitors, features, price and logic benchmarks. I became quite quick an asset for global product management. Bringing market intelligence connected to different aspects of the product (technical, positioning etc…) the cooperation with global PM was close and resulted in active participation in projects. General to become a good PM assistant you need to have wide interest in product, market and analytics. Give valid insights and support promotion of internal and external lunches.

An assistant product manager has to be data-driven. As the experience for this role usually does not require previous roles understanding how the product is used in practice which requires a lot of expertise talking to the target users, an assistant product manager needs to have all the analytical skills required to analyse data and process the results so that it results in faster product management-related decisions.

Lors de mon expérience d'assistante de chef de produit j'étais amené à faire de la veille sur les produits. En général c'était un produit en particulier, je regardais tout ce qui tourne autour du produit : nom, contenance, contenant, revendications, actifs, INCI, avis, prix. Je travaillais sur les textes des packagings futurs, je faisais des propositions de noms, de mots-clés... J'avais une partie analyse de chiffres sur les ventes des produits de l'année. Enfin j'organisais un grand nombre de test d'usage, en recrutant mon panel d'utilisation, envoyer des questionnaires, analyser des réponses, en conclure des choses.

In my opinion, don’t think you are just being an assistant to a product manager. Take it as an opportunity to show your passion and capability and strength. Few things to focus on are: 1. Know your product. 2. Know your market. 3. Learn about the competition or other similar products in the market and find what’s your differentiator that your product offers. 4. Don’t be afraid to challenge the status quo. 5. Be the spider in the web kind of resource and collaborate with others. 6. Be curious

In my opinion: - self driving - understand the product and products relations - market understanding - wide interest in product - analytic - organized - team work oriented

Manier l'anglais comme prérequis dans la collaboration sur des lancements de produits internationnaux ou pour une succursalle d'une firme d'envergure globale me semble fort à propos. Une disposition à l'apprentissage technique (je travaille comme chef produit dans un domaine qui en relève), une capacité à s'approprier le contenu et à le vulgariser pour les acteurs terrain du marché combinée à une certaine aisance orale et à la ma?trise des outils accompagnant ladite prise de parole (pendant et en amont) me paraissent fondamentaux.

J'avais besoin d'être : - organisée pour gérer les différentes missions et la manière dont je les rapportais à mes tutrices - autonome - créativité - objectivité

The personality should be the same as for a product manager: organised and CEO of a startup mentality. Very good communication skills and assertiveness combined with good listening skills. Technical understanding and being able to see the bigger picture.

Breaking into a PM roles starts with looking into companies that prioritize product-led growths. Such have a product team vetting the performance of the product. One can join the team as intern or product/data analyst while understudying and maintaining the desire for product role.

If you having trouble breaking into the Product Management space and need experience, one strategy is to look for analyst positions on a Product team. Make sure your desire to learn Product principles is shared with your leaders, and look for opportunities to shadow and learn from the PMs you work alongside.

Il faut regarder sur les sites de recrutement, chercher des entreprises via linkedin en fonction du secteur qui nous intéresse, se connecter aux personnes de l'entreprise pour savoir s'ils ont des besoins.

If there is no direct job opportunity guess you need to support in variable ways you PM colleagues. Show interest, skills and knowledge connected to product positioning, implementation, technical knowledge/product understanding, market and competitors. Be product promoter. Be a part of team and support. Definitely you will be seen in organization and the opportunity will arrive.

En amont une solide expérience terrain mêlant relation commerciale, activité formation et action markéting peuvent mener à envisager le poste, toujours en amont et tout au long, une activité de networking conséquente d'autant plus dans un groupe étendu, multimarques et plus largement auprès de tous types d'acteurs du marché du plus petit client au plus gros concurrent pour étoffer la posture professionnelle et trouver le positionnement adéquat pour envisager le poste et y être envisagé comme une évidence par l'instance décisionnaire.

Product management is not easy task and there is always something to do! We are the spider web connecting all departments. You need to like with issues as all issues product related will end up on your desk in the end ;) and believe me it can be all and more what you are currently thinking of. It is super exciting job with big responsibilities that shape the company.

Un bon chef de produit est quelqu’un qui a une vision très large. Il n’est pas rare d’avoir des chefs de produit avec une expérience technique (engineering, chef de projets) ou commerciale (sales, KAM), voire un ancien client. Un chef de produit senior a rarement fait exclusivement sa carrière à ce poste.

Le métier de chef de produit est vaste, il y a pleins de missions qui sont toutes différentes les unes des autres. On ne s'ennuie jamais.

Toujours garder le terrain en ligne de mire et sauter sur toute occasion pour en conserver le go?t quitte à quitter sa zone de confort. Même éloigné c'est lui qui drive l'action du CP pour mieux mettre en valeur le produit dans un environnement avec le moins de secrets possibles et qui demeure tangible en toutes circonstances.
