Communication is key. The words drive the story. I usually start with a mood board based on key words. Finding imagines online or from a photo archive that capture the tone of the film or title sequence. From here the next step might be to start building hero images based on the mood board using VFX programs. Refining and exploring during each step. Saul Bass and Alfred Hitchcock are great people to reference for film.
