In my experience, the best way to balance dilution with capital is to think long and hard about the milestones you are trying to achieve with this particular round. Oftentimes, founders get delusions of grandeur and want to be “raise a lot of money” so they can publish an impressive press release or even to earn recognition amongst their peers! Forget all that. The best founders? They analyze their goals, identify achievable milestones, and work backwards to calculate exactly the amount of funding they need at a given moment to achieve those milestones. By doing this, they raise just enough to get to the next goal without excessively diluting themselves. Be smart with fundraising. Know your goals.
