If voicing your opining means being marginalized, the risk may not be worth the effort of expressing dissent. This has been a barrier for reporting in military environment where reporting harassment behaviors can back fire to alienate the victims.

A stakeholder may focus on providing feedback on specific issues close to the heart unless you engage them in considering a broader perspective. In many cases, the stakeholder may not be aware of the full scope or outcome, potentially limiting the quality of the input you receive.

Identify the underlying emotion can help with empathy; because anger and hurt generally will trigger our own defense mechanism and can cause us to see the person as the problem instead of understanding the real issues which cause a mental health breakdown. We see this is in high risk event such as surgery where the stress and anxiety highjack the brain and all good reasoning goes out the window. It is best not to reach those levels of emotion, however, many healthcare workers are functioning daily at extreme levels of stress and anxiety.

Communication is not just about conveying information, but also about creating alignment, engagement, and influence. Before collaborating and diving into action, it's important to take the time to truly understand your stakeholders. Making sure you know their goals, priorities, and challenges, and that you're taking the time to build trust up front makes the actual collaboration with these stakeholders much more effective. While this does take time (up front) it often pays off in the long run

The fifth step to balancing the needs and expectations of different stakeholders is to evaluate and adapt. Evaluation is not just measuring results, but also learning from feedback and data. Adaptation is not just changing plans, but also changing behaviors and mindsets. To evaluate and adapt successfully, you need to set SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound), collect and analyze relevant metrics and indicators, solicit and incorporate feedback from your stakeholders, and implement changes and improvements based on your findings. You can also use tools such as the Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle, or the Kirkpatrick Model of Evaluation to guide your evaluation and adaptation process.

Keeping an open mind in collaboration is how we allow ourselves permission to grow from our old belief systems to our future self. Just imagine if you still had your 4th grade mentally how difficult it would be to manage as an adult.
