A empresa precisa ter bem desenhado seus critérios ESG, n?o é possível cobrar dos fornecedores, se nem mesmo ela tem padr?es claros. Após política pronta, dar conhecimento aos fornecedores e estabelecer período razoável para adapta??o. Vencido o prazo, sugiro ir além dos questionários e auditorias; fa?a visita “in loco”, confira de perto as medidas implantadas e como est?o se concretizando na prática. Parece exagero, mas esse cuidado entre coleta e verifica??o de informa??es sobre o desempenho e as práticas ESG de seus fornecedores, minoram os riscos do seu negócio. Uma vez identificado quaisquer lacunas ou sinais de alerta nas práticas ESG do fornecedor, haverá possibilidade de corre??o ou em último caso, substitui??o do fornecedor.

La definición de criterios debería incorporar en estos momentos la priorización de proveedores, posiblemente por impacto potencial y volumen. El recopilar toda la información de todos los proveedores y después analizar solo llevará a desperdiciar esfuerzos (o tener una capacidad de trabajo casi infinita) Creo que el mejor enfoque es ir implantando los controles por capas de proveedores. Recordemos, el que mucho abarca poco aprieta.

2 Conduct due diligence

Once you have established your ESG criteria, you need to conduct due diligence on your potential and existing suppliers. This process involves gathering and verifying information about your suppliers' ESG performance and practices, and identifying any gaps or red flags that may pose a risk to your business. To do this, you can use self-assessment questionnaires, third-party audits, certifications and ratings, and stakeholder feedback. Self-assessment questionnaires are surveys that you send to your suppliers to collect data on their ESG policies, procedures, and outcomes; these can be standardized or customized depending on your needs. Third-party audits are independent inspections that you hire to evaluate your suppliers' ESG compliance and performance on-site; these can be general or specialized depending on the scope of the assessment. Certifications and ratings are external validations that your suppliers obtain to demonstrate their adherence to certain ESG standards and frameworks; these can be widely recognized or niche certifications depending on the relevance of the assessment. Lastly, stakeholder feedback is the input that you receive from customers, employees, investors, regulators, NGOs, media, etc.; this can be formal or informal depending on the availability of the feedback.

Incorporating ESG criteria into your supplier evaluation questionnaires helps to embed ESG criteria throughout your supply base. It will highlight suppliers who may present an ESG risk, but it also highlights to your suppliers that ESG is a priority for your business. This in turn may help to promote positive engagement towards improving ESG performance in your suppliers, which will be beneficial in the long term. Use of third part auditors and/or third party ESG evaluation tools can also help show that you and your business are going above and beyond legislative requirements towards ESG, which should promote positive responses from your customer base.

3 Analyze and prioritize

After you have collected and verified information about your suppliers' ESG performance and practices, you need to analyze and prioritize the results. Analysis is the process of interpreting and comparing the data to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats for your business. You can use scoring and ranking to assign numerical values and positions to your suppliers based on their ESG performance, or gap and risk analysis to identify discrepancies between your expectations and requirements. SWOT and PESTLE analysis can be used to evaluate internal and external factors that affect ESG performance. Prioritization is the process of selecting and ranking the most important and urgent ESG issues and suppliers that need your attention. Severity, likelihood, influence, leverage, alignment, and opportunity are criteria that can be used to prioritize.

4 Implement and monitor

Once you have analyzed and prioritized the results of your ESG assessment, you need to implement and monitor the actions and solutions that you have decided to take. Implementation involves executing and communicating your ESG plans and initiatives to your suppliers and stakeholders. You can use collaborative or directive approaches, financial or non-financial incentives and sanctions, formal or informal training and support. Monitoring tracks and measures your ESG plans and initiatives, as well as your suppliers' ESG performance and practices. Input or output KPIs, internal or external reporting and disclosure, formal or informal feedback and review can all be used to assess and mitigate supplier ESG risks. By doing so, you create a more resilient, responsible, and competitive supply chain.
