PDCA can be applied as a big cycle, strategic planning for example, and as a small cycle as well (daily work improvement for example)

Begin by planning. Determine whatever process you wish to enhance and establish precise, quantifiable targets. Use tools such as process maps and fishbone diagrams. Obviously, GEMBA is must. Next, do: Implement the desired adjustments on a smaller scale. This could entail testing new methods or procedures. Then check: Compare the results to the targets set during the planning process. Analyse the data to see if the changes have resulted in improvements or if additional adjustments are required. Finally, act. Based on the findings, decide whether to standardise the new procedure, continue to improve it, or return to the old way. Lessons learnt should be documented for future improvement.

That way gains are higher and when embeded in daily routines it leads to the real culture of continuous improvement.
