However, prioritizing employees as the first audience for external announcements and you'll increase trust, engagement + internal/external alignment.

Alignment between internal & external is more a matter of your strategy and tactical approach in terms of the audience for each, tone of message, timing, positioning, promotions, et al. However, what I found most critical is to ensure the central "Purpose" of your communication remains seamless through the internal & external channels. That is key. Prioritizing internal in terms of timing helps you create brand ambassadors internally who can than further amplify your external message and efforts. Another key thing to remember is to understand the "why" behind your communications thinking about and ensuring you have a solid response to "why someone should care about what you're trying to say". And that is your Purpose.

I don't think alignment is enough, i think we should have total harmonization between internal and external comms. If this does not exist, then it will become a direct risk on the client experience. Never promise something to the public that you did not fully integrate into your corporate culture.
