This is my all-time favorite topic to discuss, so I always tell my candidates to provide the true explanation for the gap as they did not commit any crime. No matter what the reason was, just be honest. Honesty is the key, and employers, interviewers appreciate transparency.

That's very important to learn as and when you get an opportunity. Even if there was a gap, find out the positive aspects that came from this period. Focus on how your skills, knowledge, and experience enriched you and prepared you for the next role.

Its the same as field mapping when creating an automation. You can't just tell the program that you want it to do something. You have to actually map it out for the program. then it can do it's magic. You are the storyteller and you need to SHOW an interviewer or a reader of your resume what you know to be true. They will not be using their own creative thinking to determine what your transferrable skills are.

Here’s a different perspective from a recruiter: not every hiring manager cares about gaps and transitions and when you go out of your way to address it without being asked you are just drawing attention… Imagine I shouted pink elephant, you weren’t thinking pink elephant until it was said! Just like a hiring manager might not have even been thinking of a gap until you drew their attention towards it to begin with. You should always have a solid answer prepared and be ready for the questions they ask with honesty if acknowledged, then focus on the future without dwelling on the topic So if you don’t explain a gap in a cover and get an interview, guess what?! They likely didn’t care about the gap and you can go interview with confidence
