I always recommend that candidates research others currently working in the role. Look at the path they have had in the company. Use this information to ask probing questions during your interview. Not only do you gather more information, but you show the interviewer you are interested and you did your homework.

I agree but would also add that in today's world of online submittals, OCR and parsing, it is imperative to understand that plain text résumés with a standard font (arial or new times roman at 12 point) will work best. Fancy fonts, borders, and embellishments do not parse well and can reduce your résumé to an unreadable jumble of characters which will most likely be discarded.
