The system is based on the application of transducers to the turbine blades, which in turn emit high-frequency ultrasonic waves. The ultrasonic waves propagate through the blade material, creating microvibrations at the interface between the ice and the blade, weakening the adhesion of the ice. and causing it to break and detach.

Have you heard about the project being carried out by the Swedish Wind Energy Technology Center with some universities? I will give some details of the project: The project is based on the development and application of nanotechnology-based hydrophobic coatings on wind turbine blades to reduce the accumulation of ice and snow. For those who aren't in the know, hydrophobic coating works as a treatment applied to surfaces to make them water repellent. The most common hydrophobic coating technologies are COATING WITH SILICA OR TITANIUM NANOPARTICLES and FLUOROPOLYMER COATINGS, the latter has been the most common application in wind turbines.

Accumulation of snow and ice around the base of the turbine can affect structural stability, especially during deicing and refreezing. Drainage systems around the base of the turbine to prevent the accumulation of water that could freeze and expand. Sensors to monitor structural integrity and detect displacements or movements in the turbine base. Snow accumulation can change the terrain profile and, consequently, the distribution of winds. It would also be interesting to explore how turbine siting and layout could be optimized to reduce vulnerability to specific weather hazards.
