We hear the word "authenticity" so much when it comes to social media, and while it seems cliché, that's the key to all successful social copy. People want to believe what a person or a brand says. They don't want to feel tricked—they want to feel moved and connected. When you make a claim that you're offering something, you need to follow through immediately. Don't make the user jump through hoops to get it. Ask for feedback, and understand that you'll receive some useful comments amongst many that aren't.

Which means if you spend as many hours on your call to action as you do trying to find the perfect email subject line, the odds of it getting seen and utilized are minuscule unless everything above it is captivating enough to allow them to see it. Your target audience knows what you're up to. The skepticism is real. Make sure you draw them in so that your carefully sculpted Call to Action feels natural.

If you visit a restaurant and you order nothing you won't get anything. The same applies to call-to-actions. If you don't have a clear and compelling call-to-action on your website you won't get any transactions.

Pixar often uses the framework: Once upon a time there was ___. Every day, ___. One day ___. Because of that, ___. Until finally ___. By tapping proven storytelling techniques like Pixar's framework, you spark emotion and motivate your audience to convert. Stories allow you to capture hearts, not just attention.

So you should test each call to action button, copy point and even the positioning on the post to see where you getting the most engagement. But most of all -- measuring your social engagement consistently needs to be a must. Sometimes it's not the call to action that is falling short, it is the content itself and how it pairs against your value proposition and your target audience.

One that makes you feel the way you want your readers to feel. Read that piece. Then, you rewrite it, word for word, by hand. Hook, retain, and reward. Follow this simple process for every post and they will do what you want them to do more often than not. Every post should do this. Your posts wholeistically should follow this, and your content within a post (like a video) should do this. When you reward them, humans are naturally wired to reciprocate and as such will do the thing you want more often than not because they feel like they got something first. Don't overcomplicate it. Just do it!
