How can you write a cold email that establishes rapport?

A great way to establish rapport in a cold email is by understanding your audience and showing this in the first line of your email. You could use two methods to develop this: 1. Similarity - show that you're similar to the person you're contacting. Here are some examples: you're in the same city, industry, or community; 2. Compliment - find something you genuinely admire about the person or company you're contacting and write that in a short sentence.

An impactful cold email must be personalized and value based. Have a compelling subject line that captures attention, followed by a polite greeting and a clear expression of genuine interest in the recipient. Tailor the message to showcase the value you bring, keeping the email concise and concluding with a specific call to action. A professional closing and follow-up, if you don't receive a response after a reasonable period. Send a polite follow-up email. Reiterate your interest and provide a gentle reminder of your initial message. Remember, the goal is to establish a connection, so maintaining professionalism and sincerity is key!

Anyone responsible for selling knows that prospecting includes cold emails, but who’s actually good at it? How can a salesperson drive a solid open and email engagement rate from a series of unsolicited sales emails, especially now in a virtual selling and digitally polluted environment? Fortunately, there are proven techniques you can use to make cold emails work for you! I’m not a fan of cold calling or cold emailing. In my humble opinion, cold outreach should be used as a last resort by a seller and used after you have warmed up your buyer. As a necessary evil, a salesperson must learn how to “warm” up the cold email and/or call to create engagement with the target persona and get them to want to engage or schedule a sales call.

What are you aiming for: a 15-minute intro call or piquing their interest to share a link with more info? And please, please, please remember to follow-up!

I’ve found that a thought provoking question (that makes them think differently about overcoming their pain points), in addition to a success story, increases response rates.

In my experience, one method of offering value is offering something that: - It's free - It's a small part of your product or service - The person receiving it doesn't need to commit financially, and it takes almost no time for them to get it Another clever method of offering value is through gift cards or physical gifts related to their industry. Please remember that you should be open about why you're offering this and how it links to your offer.

Give before asking for anything. I don't make the rules. Most bluntly - you are sending a cold (read - uninvited) email. If you're an intruder, you better bring something valuable. Avoid lengthy emails, provide something for free that can be implemented without your help, and don't slap your meeting link.

How Can You Be Persuasive In A Cold Email? It all comes back to having a clear and thorough understanding of your buyer personas. Consider what pain point they have, the solutions they may have tried without success, or the goals they have. The more you can get into ‘what’ they may be looking for and position your email to provide value, then you’ll increase your chances of them opening and engaging with the content.

Your cold emails should offer immediate value for each recipient. Provide a solution or valuable insight that captures their interest. Make it clear how what you're offering will solve their problem or improve their situation. Offer a snippet of knowledge or an actionable resource that will address a pain point that they might have. Showcase the benefits they'll gain from engaging with you. They don't really care about you so don't make your cold email too much about yourself. Give them something valuable upfront so they understand just how valuable your paid offer could be. If they see you are willing to help for free they'll be far more motivated to see what working with you could be like.

If you want your prospects to respond to you, then end with a CTA that’s very hard to say no to. So instead of asking for a call, ask them if you can send them more info. Remember, it’s your job to drive the conversation forward (and remove any friction that your prospects might encounter).

The goal of every cold email is to get the prospect to take the next action moving the sales process forward. So everything you write in the email must be directed toward that one purpose. This implies 3 things: - Only seek one action: don’t ask them to get on a call with you and to complete your survey. Focus. - Include a call to action that directs the buyer to a helpful resource e.g.downloadable ebook, or ask a question to validate their business pain(s). - If you honestly believe that your solution can bring value to your prospect: provide three 30-minute time slots two, three, and four weeks out. Record in your CRM how far out their schedule may be booked when they respond and select a time slot AND what time they prefer to meet!

A simple question as a CTA in the cold email is the best option requesting the prospect to decide if they are interested to communicate further or not.

Don't leave your prospects hanging or wondering what to do next. Tell them what you want them to do! Guide them to their next steps. Be clear and concise about what action you want them to take. And don't over think this. It's a cold email so don't be overly wordy either. Whether it's scheduling a call, "Book a call HERE" Downloading a resource, "Click HERE for your free [THING]" Or Exploring further, "Click this to find out more" Just make it easy for them to "click-through" and go deeper into your funnel. Prompt them with clear and strong calls to action. Make it easy and enticing for them to respond.

In my experience, follow-up should be sent to the prospect at a gap of 3 days from the initial email. Requesting feedback for the previous email should be the best option to ask prospects which I believe is not pushy.

Persistence will usually pay off. Don't give up after the first email. People are busy! They might have missed your initial email. You should follow up strategically, adding value with each touchpoint. Tailor your follow-ups based on their engagement or lack thereof. I recommend a 3-4 email sequence for cold outbound acquisition. Initial contact, 2 follow-up emails, and a follow-up/breakup. Craft polite, engaging follow-up emails that build upon your initial value proposition. In fact, EVERY piece of advice and every asset or resource should build on and contribute to your value proposition. Showcase your willingness to assist and support their needs. Without coming off as needy or desperate!

Here's what works for me - an email that doesn't beat around the bush, does not use flattery and articulates a value proposition concisely. I appreciate it when the sender has done their homework well. I like a clear call to action so I know what is expected of me. Follow-ups are also good, as long as they are not too assertive or come without additional value or context.

Create Curiosity This is the heart of the prospecting email. This is where you deliver the “why” they should be talking to you. It’s all about how you can improve things over the current status quo. Connect on a human level, address the recipient by name, and reference their specific challenges. When you think "B2B" or "B2C," always remember that it's P2P "Person to Person" first! Ensure that every email you send is CAN-SPAM compliant. Each email must include your business address, and business name, and every recipient must have the option to "OPT-OUT!" If you send a high volume of cold emails update the SPF, DKIM, and DMARC in your domain's DNS settings before 02/2024. Don't go from low to high volume too fast or you'll trigger certain spam filters!
