As an HCI professional, mastering the nuts and bolts of AI isn't just good practice—it's essential. Think of the Chain of Thought in AI: using it post-decision is like using a hammer for a screw—it's the wrong tool at the wrong time. Recent articles err by ignoring this timing nuance. Using it after the AI has arrived at a final answer might not give you the insights you need because the chain has already reached its endpoint. At that stage, the system is not "thinking" or "deliberating" anymore; it has already made its decision. Understanding how LLMs work is critical to deploying AI solutions more effectively, producing better outcomes and enriched user experiences.
