Further, it's vital to weigh the pros and cons of IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS models. A certification in cloud data architecture is beneficial, as it equips you with the expertise to evaluate and discern among providers and services, tailoring your choice to your specific requirements.

On a basic level, they offer the same resources with very small differences for most of their services. You might want to take into consideration any offers on services when you join them, their governmental regions, availability zones which are specific to your target audience to ensure low latency.

Identify 3 parameters which are the most important to you/your organization, and than do a Bakeoff between the various providers. Same data, same resources, same output requirements and bump the results against the parameters most important to you.

Some of the factors that I consider when designing are: - The functionality of the data storage solution, such as the type of data, the access methods, the backup and recovery options, and the integration with other systems. - The speed and capacity of the data storage solution, such as the performance, scalability, and availability of the data. The reliability of the data storage solution, such as the durability, fault tolerance, and redundancy of the data. - The security of the data storage solution, such as the encryption, authentication, authorization, and compliance of the data. - The cost of the data storage solution, such as the initial investment, the operational expenses, and the total cost of ownership of the data.

Designing the data storage in Cloud is a collective responsibility of Solution Architect, Data Architect, Data developer and Database Administrator. Cyber security architects are also not off the hook to ensure data going in cloud is well secured, processed and meet all the compliance requirements.

Take a holistic approach, most of the cloud providers are good in providing resiliency and continuity recommendations for cloud native services. However, often a data architecture includes external dependencies. Evaluate those in detail and pick a provider which sits better in your eco-system.

Fit for purpose processing is key. We often try to "push" standardization when its not required. A certification will help you when to say no to standardization pitch.

Level of security measures and regulatory compliance varies based on the industry or the domain to which the data belongs. Cloud providers usually offer most capabilities and tooling to enable required security controls and enforce necessary regulatory requirements. However, data security choices can be very expensive if not well designed, and cloud data architecture certification can help one to design most cost optimal solution.

One must take advantage of any encryption offered by the cloud providers. They have the option of bringing your own encryption keys or using theirs. Each have their benefits. IAM must not be overlooked and the principle of least access is best everywhere. Granting access to fewer services is always better as a starting point.

One might want to consider having backups with a different cloud provider, just in case. It might seem extreme, but remember, storage is cheap and when you compare it to data loss, it might be even cheaper!
